Recent discussions and posts about Cocksburn Culvert (built to permit the flow of Cocksburn under the embankment for Greenhall Railway Viaduct), prompted Blantyre man Alex Rochead to get on his walking shoes and take a visit to the site. Alex told me “He had often walked up the old railway from Blantyre past Mid Lettrick towards East Kilbride, and also up the Calder but never to the Cocks Burn.” So having seen a recent post, Alex decided to have a closer look, taking along his camera. This set of photos are of the culvert on the Mid Lettrick side.

A separate post has been created with the pictures on the Greenhall side of the culvert outlet.

The inside of the culvert photos show how well it was made, the culvert itself made of brick and stone. The outside entrance though has seen some erosion, which is not surprising as the Cocksburn has been known to flood from time to time.
