Ina and Peter Sanders contacted me in late January 2015 saying ,“Looking for some ancestry help. Grandfather was william sanders born july 1877, married Sarah Jane Jenkins born feb 27th 1881. Also got William George Sanders born march 1849 thats all the info we got.”
Using the Ancestry website, it would appear this tree is well documented, but on Peter’s grandmother Jenkins side with some good photos of the family in the 1800s. The Sanders side, however was definitely more tricky.
I started with William George Sanders, the oldest person in the line that Peter and Ina had. I found I could go further back than Peters Great grandfather, Willam George Sanders b 1849. This is the 1871 English Census and he is listed as being 21 or so. His father and mother are also marked as William Sanders aged 52 and Ann aged 55.
Unfortunately, thats where things run out. That particular William Sanders was born 1819 and although there are hints to explore further back, I can’t make the jump with any certainty that those people were perhaps from America. So
1819 is the furthest I can go back for certain. These is some evidence on the 1871 residence forms above to at least explore other birth certificates.
Whilst mapping out the extensive Jenkins side of this family, (family tree included here for reference), i uncovered an old family photo of Sarah Jenkins and her family. Sarah is the girl at the back middle, the picture likely dating from around 1900.
