Thanks to Marion Robertson for sharing this still from her home cine movie. Pictured at the corner of Station Road and Glasgow Road are people lining the streets at the Broadway Cinema, which is believed to be part of the crowd lining the street for the Queen’s visit through Blantyre in 1962.
How great to see photos of this building (and the people) in colour. It certainly adds a new perspective to some of the old photos of Glasgow Road.
The Queen was visiting as part of her opening of East Kilbride (as a new town), and also visited David Livingstone Centre and Blantyre Train Station. I’m sure lots of readers will have fond memories of this cinema.
