Jim Cochrane sent in this photo, adding the following words, “My Mums Uncle and Aunt John and Sarah Baird and there daughters Christine and Isobel. They lived in the Building where Wullie Thompsons shop was at the Corner of Hunthill road and Stonefield Cresent. John Baird came from Craigmuir farm . He was a baker to trade and worked for the coop in the big bakery that was on Auchinraith road.
My Mum said that during and after WW2 he used to go to Calderside every year before Christmas and do loads of baking for my Gran using up all my gran’s yearly ration of dried powdered eggs as well as some of her fresh eggs. She had loads of hens on the farm so they would never be short of eggs but they still got rationed the powdered eggs as well.”
