1930s Annie Main on the right
Jim Cochrane kindly shared this information and photo. “My Gran Annie Main on the right of the photo left school when she was 14 and then went to work in Service . She went to work at Broompark Farm Blantyre For the Rocheads. Then she went to Netheraffleck Farm Kirkfieldbank, Lanark where this picture was taken . She must have been about 18 in this picture.
She got Married in 1935 when she was 21 But she didn’t move to Calderside Farm until 1941. Before moving to Calderside, she and my Grandfather John Marshall lived in Maxwellton village near East kilbride but not part of it. She would walk from there down to the calder at the castle and cross the river and then walk up the field to Calderside farm every day.I believe there may have been a wooden bridge there at that time.”
