Another previously unpublished photo now from 1905. Pictured is Crossbasket House at the turn of the 20th Century.
The viewpoint is familiar as is the building which hasnt changed much in size. Look how well tended the gardens are. The neat edging, the gravel driveway, only disturbed mildly by an early vehicle. The original stonework is covered up, as was the tradition of Victorian construction in the early 1800s. Jumping into the present, Crossbasket House has this render now stripped back fully, back to the original stonework and I have to say looks better as it is now, than even in this glorious old picture, when it was looked after just as carefully.
Thanks to distant relative Alex Bowie for sharing and of course to my 2nd great grand uncle, David Ritchie for taking this photo, as an early pioneer of photography in this area.
