1900’s Boatland Crossing & Ferry Path

1900s Ferry Path. Boat crossing to Boatland, Blantyre

Pictured here between 1900 -1910s is the Boatland Crossing. The small ferry boat crossed back and forth from the Uddingston side at this Ferry Path in the foreground on the left, over to the Blantyre side at Boatland, near Blantyre Ferme. Although not dated, these photos are consistent with similar featured postcards of the era.

Ferry Path was an extension of Ferry Road in Uddingston, which led down the little beachhead, as a dropping point for the boat.

I’ve marked up the 1910 map showing my red dots for where i believe these two photos were taken and also highlighted the relevant Ferry Path and roads in blue.

Thank you to Robert Stewart for sharing these 2 photos in such good resolution (my copy of the first photo was poor by comparison).
