1989 Refuse collection starts in Blantyre
Some of the things I’ve kept completely amuse me now. What was no more than a little leaflet at the time, is now a good record for a little piece of Blantyre history. The introduction of wheelie bins refuse collection to Blantyre. 25th September 1989. (surprised it was as late as that!). Gone were roadside 70’s style bagged collections piling up. Gone were the cage style mesh circular bins with rubber lids (that would keep going on fire). Wheelie bins had arrived, and my how we take them for granted now.
This leaflet went through all Blantyre doors that month and is perhaps a sign that I really need to start making some decisions about what to keep or throw away.
