1972 Blantyre Page EK News
Amongst the newspaper articles passed down to me from my late mum, is this Blantyre page from The East Kilbride News. Its dated Friday Dec 15th, 1972. Pictured on the left is my dad in the Anderson Church Drama Group. This was the drama group based in Stonefield Road. I also recognise Archie Duncan, Ronnie MacFarlane, Irene Dye and Annie Reid.
Elsewhere on the page, an 11 year old boy David Mair was knocked down originally from Holmswood Avenue. Blantyre also had a spate of thefts in Morris Drive and Hunthill Rd resulting in break ins to cars. In another story, a fire broke out in Orestes chipshop. Another story details Blantyre’s transition to smokeless fires from coal over to electric.
