This photo dates from 1919. Pictures at 49 Broompark Road in the back garden of a house called “Enterkin” in my great grandfather and great grandmother John Duncan and Maggie Bowie Duncan.
They had four children, Jenny, Chrissie, Margaret and John (my grandfather). None of the girls ever had any children, the youngest Jenny dying at only aged 7.
My great grandfather was a boot salesman working for the local Co-op. My great grandmother was a housewife who lived until 1951. She was the daughter of John Bowie, one of the rescuers of the 1877 pit explosion.
Their daughters Margaret and Chrissie lived at this house until Margaret died in 1997.
