4th September 2014 Blantyre Heritage Group Walk

Just back from an outdoor evening with Blantyre Heritage Group. A great evening walk around High Blantyre. Lovely company of History enthusiasts and thanks to Gordon Cook for being a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide. Thanks to Pamela at SLC, Blantyre Heritage Group and the bus driver for laying it all on.

The 1877 pit disaster was completely put into context for me this evening. Every days a school day and nice to hear new stories and see new photos. Places were limited on this one, but I hope i can organise similar type of events in the future for Blantyre Project readers.

  1. WHAT IS BLANTYRE PROJECTGOT INFORMATION FROM THE REDBURNFARM SITE

    1. This site was one of Scotlands worst ever mining disasters where over 200 men and boys lost their lives in 1877. The site of Dixons Colliery Pit 3 was on the exact site of the new pub.
