2014 Crossbasket Nursery

The other day, i had the pleasure of being invited for a quick tour of the new Crossbasket Nursery, just off Stoneymeadow Road, High Blantyre. This was in my capacity as website owner of the Blantyre Telegraph, the Blantyre news website on Facebook. Although construction work was still continuing, i was very impressed by the standard of workmanship and quality of materials being used in the building. (perhaps more so as i’m a construction manager anyway). Of course, i was there to see the progress, rather than anything else and Shona the Nursery Manager kindly have me a tour around the new building.

The new Nursery School is progressing well and on target to open for the new season in August 2014. The location is simply stunning offering peaceful and idyllic views over to nearby Crossbasket House and the beautiful woodlands and gardens nearby. It will certainly be somewhere children can enjoy both in and around this building. The Nursery was still being fitted out when i was there, but the architects and owners have given a lot of thought into the needs of the children

themselves. For example, some of the windows are only 2 foot off the ground, allowing children to look out and of course the building is subdivided into areas for babies, older children and all with their security in the building and out in the garden, at the forefront of the design. The nursery will cater for children from 8 weeks old right up to 5 years at schooling age.

Open days are planned, offering local people to see the facilities for themselves. Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July 2014 from 10am to 4pm, then again on Tuesday 24th July 2014 from 8am to 8pm. Further days are planned at the start of August, before the grand opening.

From everything i have seen and the commitment demonstrated to me on my visit, I am positive the Crossbasket Nursery will be an astounding success and a most welcome addition to the pursuit of childcare excellence in Blantyre.
