In January 1893, the Blantyre Parochial Board discussed Andrew Hamill’s death after a wrongful diagnosis of enteric fever by Dr. M’Pherson. Instead of hospital care, he was declared insane and sent to Greenock Asylum, where he died after four weeks. The governor criticized the initial misdiagnosis and handling of the case.
