Introduction: In 2016, I was working on some history for David Livingstone Primary School about the 1970’s redevelopment of Glasgow Road. A presentation well received, but it had a longer lasting effect on me, sparking an immense interest in the complete story of the Planning, Demolition and Renovation of Glasgow Road, perhaps the most significant series of events in Blantyre since the mills and discovery of coal.

The modern story of how Old Blantyre changed that decade has never been written about in any detail before, until now with the forthcoming illustrated book, “Blantyre Glasgow Road – The Real Story” by Paul Veverka (c) 2017. Much of the history contained in that book is listed here, in what is the largest archive of events surrounding the Planning, Demolition and Rebuilding of Glasgow Road and surrounding areas. Enjoy.
