Next, as we take our trip along more old Blantyre shops, we’re going to William Pates Newsagents. Pictured is Martha Pate (nee Smellie) in the 1950’s.

Located at 196 Glasgow Road, the location of this former shop was on the north side of the road and was approximately where the outside of the front of the Sports Centre is now.

In the shop I can see jars of boiled sweets, sherbet lemons as well as promotional Cadburys chocolate bars and of course the latest magazines and newspapers.
