Rain Puts a Dampner on Events, 1892

On Saturday 4th June 1892, the Congregational EU Church at Craig Street had their annual summer outing. The Sabbath School took place to Dalziel House (Lord Hamiltons).

A large turnout left the Church walking along Calder Street towards Low Blantyre Station, then by rail to Motherwell. What would have been a most enjoyable day was however marred by rain, which came on heavy shortly after the party boarded the train.

On the same day, another Blantyre excursion took place. The Sabbath School of High Blantyre’s Christian Union headed to Blantyre Farm to a field allowed for use by landowner, Mr Young. The company left School Lane in High Blantyre in good spirits on horse drawn lorries and carts. That same rain eventually put a dampner on proceedings and unfortunately spoiled the planned sports and amusements.
