Council cuts! Don’t you just love them!? It was a shock to Blantyre residents last year to learn that Blantyre Library was to close down. The library had been at the corner of Victoria Street and Glasgow Road for many years (though never lived up to the greatness and volume of books at the former Calder Street library).
Then, on 29th September 2025, Blantyre Library re-opened, somewhat downsized in the new library hub, in a renovated part of Blantyre’s Sports centre. It is actually a bright, welcoming space filled with colourful wall art and plenty of shelves ready for you to explore.

The library has just recently announced extended opening hours.
Monday: 9:15am – 12:30pm & 1:30pm – 5:00pm
Tuesday: 9:15am – 12:30pm & 1:30pm – 5:00pm
Wednesday: 9:15am – 12:30pm & 1:30pm – 5:00pm
Thursday: 9:15am – 12:15pm
Friday: 9:15am – 12:30pm & 1:30pm – 5:00pm
Saturday: 9:15am – 12:30pm & 1:30pm – 5:00pm
