Extra content about other parts of Scottish history. In the icy dawn of 13 February 1692, government soldiers, who had been sheltered for days by the MacDonald clan in Glencoe, turned on their hosts. They killed 38 men, women, and children while others fled into the freezing mountains, many dying from exposure.
The massacre was a punishment for the MacDonalds’ delay in pledging allegiance to King William III. But it was also a dark example of clan politics and government power crushing Highland resistance.
Glencoe, with its haunting beauty, became a symbol of betrayal and tragedy, echoing with the sorrow of a community wiped out under the guise of law.
🥀 Does Glencoe still whisper the sorrow of that winter morning?
