1980 Building the Sports Centre, Revisited

Imagine for a second drones existed in previous decades. Wouldn’t it have been great to look back on pivotal moments in Blantyre’s history from above. The building of the suspension bridge or Greenhall pillars, the demolition of Glasgow Road tenements, the various galas and events!

Well, thanks to the wonders of new AI Technology and the use of a couple of photos, we’re able to recreate a drone scene from 1980, of the Blantyre Sports Centre being built!

The park has been cleared, the tenements demolished and a crane lowers steel reinforcement down into a hole which will eventually become the Sports Centre large pool. As with other videos being featured this week, it should be known of course this video didn’t exist at the time. It’s a little glimpse into how it MAY have looked using actual photos as reference.

Fascinating and just a little overwhelming!
