Historic Charm of Croftfoot: A Painting

Another fantastic painting by Rob Thorpe, which was used on the cover of one of my books. This is very personal and familiar to me, for its Croftfoot, High Blantyre my own house.

Once a farmhouse and built in 1730, it remains one of the oldest houses in Blantyre, though is now split into different functions being a house and business. Rob painted the house in the style of an historic setting, with no solar panels or modern features, chickens outside and with plenty of rustic charm. He’s captured the colour of the stone and slate well too.

Previous owners right up until the late 20th Century have altered the layout of these buildings in their own way, joining, rejoining them or adding to the footprint. I’ve certainly contributed to that by renovating the properties since moving here in 2012 and with a project starting shortly in Springtime 2025, the residential part is about to change further.

It’s difficult to comprehend how many people must have lived here over the lifetime of this house. In five years time, I’ll need to plan a little party to celebrate the house being 300 years old.
