This photo of Blantyre Cottage Hospital looks like it was taken in the 1930’s. It looks established, well kept and in use. The land was secure din 1908 with construction starting in 1909. The official opening of Blantyre’s own hospital was on 25th June 1910.
After a successful start, funding started to become an issue, driven by the economic hardships of the late 1920s and 1930’s. Blantyre Cottage Hospital closed on 13 Feb 1939, eventually sold off to become a private house, as it is today.
That explains lots as have passed this house many times now on the bus & by car & wondered over its size & uniqueness of design in comparison to neighbouring buildings
