Back to the 1990’s with this photo which is of course Blantyre Police Station. Now in 2024, some 115 years old. Blantyre Police moved here to Victoria Street from their former police station on Glasgow Road. The building served not only as the station and gaol, but also contained the police officers houses and offices.
I remember it well …. And the lovely police people who looked after my sister when I lost her all of seventy years ago or more. I had just started school at 4 & 1/2 and going “doon the street” (calder street) tae play wi a school mate, ma wee sister had tae come wi! Somehow she wandered off by hersel’ an I don’t remember how ended up in the police station.
I must’ve run home tae get ma mammie when I couldn’t find her. And was marched doon tae the police station immediately, and there she was sitting on the big high divider wi an ice cream, something we never had before!! My sister delighted, and I right told aff!
