In the 1970’s former boxer Henry Cooper was a household star name! Not just for his previous boxing exploits, but some may remember him in TV adverts, commentating and involved in many endorsements.
Pictured here in October 1977, is Blantyre lassie, Rosaleen Kelly, who must have landed the most “daintiest” ever punch on the jaw of the famous Mr Cooper!
Rosaleen (20) was squaring up to the former boxing champ Henry Cooper at Motherwell Civic Centre. The big match was arranged so that Henry could ‘crown’ Rosaleen “Miss B.S.R.” Rosaleen, who lived in Millands Avenue, worked at the time at B.S.R.’s East Kilbride factory, and won a £100 and a trophy after participating in their annual beauty contest.
Henry, who flew up specially for the beauty contest, said: “I’ve had a wonderful evening and been treated very kindly. It is a pity only one beauty can win!”
