October 1977 and no, punk rock had not yet arrived in Blantyre! This was actually the Blantyre and District Ladies Circle hosting a charitable, fun event in High Blantyre Hall.
This was just some of the 160 people hosting their annual ‘tramps’ party. Before the “tramps” shambled on to the dance floor, a banquet of fish and chips was enjoyed by all.
There was even a “Tramps Parade’, a fashion contest where the scruffiest couple of the night were presented with some soap and deodorant! All to raise money of course.
The Circle’s party raised between £150 and £200. This may be more difficult because of the disguises, but recognise anybody?
