Ross in Charge, 1977

The active young man here is a Blantyre lad who in 1977 aimed to be taking on the best in Britain. That opinion in August 1977, of up and coming karate star Ross Frame (19) came from a man who should know – Alex. McGregor, Scottish national karate team boss.

By Summer 1977, Alex ran five karate clubs and started up his sixth at Blantyre’s Elizabeth Scott Community Centre. He proved his faith in local boy Ross, of Dundonald Street, by putting him in charge of the new club.

“I have no fears giving Ross the job” said Alex, a Third Dan “after only two years he gained his first Dan, a remarkable achievement”.

Alex said that Ross impressed even the old-timers’ at his former club, East Kilbride when he apparently fought four men with one hand tied behind his back!
