Blantyre High School rector Peter Moncrieff was in Law village in October 1977 to hand over a prize to a lady with a very good head for figures.
Mrs Julia Purdie, of Shawfield Crescent, Law won a football autographed by the Celtic Cup Final team of last season. She was the winner of a fundraising competition run by the David Livingstone Memorial Essay Committee, of which Mr Moncrieff was convener.
The contest though Blantyre led, was open to everybody in any area and was to estimate the number of spectators at a recent Scotland vrs Czechoslovakia football match.
The sharp eyed Mrs Purdie won from thousands of entires, by incredibly giving the exact number 83,675 astonishing everybody!! And yes, she entered her guess BEFORE the exact number was disclosed to the public!
