Rambler Vehicle, 1977

Over 200 happy Blantyre pensioners looked on as local disabled man Edward Barr was handed the keys of a vehicle that would bring more freedom into his life. This was October 1977 after the Blantyre Round Table, who bought the £600 “Rambler” machine, decided to hand it over to Mr Barr at Baronhill Drive.

At a Table funded treat for 230 pensioners at the Miner’s Welfare Club on the first Monday of that month, one Tabler said afterwards: “The “rambler” has a maximum speed of 4 m.p.h. and will let Mr Barr get out and about. In fact it will help him to lead as normal a life as possible.”

Handing over the keys is Robin Douglas, chairman of Blantyre Round Table.

The treat laid on for the Blantyre pensioners included a meal and entertainment. A very good time was had by all including the organisers of the event. Recognise anybody?
