Blantyre part time soldiers Steven Robertson and Michael McGuigan take the salute in this next picture from September 1977 and the awards of a good year’s soldiering from one of their officers.
The lads were Cameronian Cadets and the pride of the Hamilton Platoon. Steven (centre) former pupil of John Ogilvie R.C High School was the platoon’s “Cadet of the Year 1977”. Cadet Sgt. Robertson (17) of Hardie Street, had been with the Cameronians for around three years and planned to go to the T.A and at the time was training to be a blacksmith.
Michael (15) of Burnside Crescent, was the platoon’s “Sportsman of the Year.” He also attended John Ogilvie R.C. High School.
