Only minutes before the big show opened, the ladies of High Blantyre’s Old Parish Church put the finishing touches to “Flowers of Praise” during August 1977.
This was the scene in the church on one Friday afternoon at the start of the two day flower show that brought spectators by the score to raise cash for the redecoration of the church.
Helpers planned and arranged the hundreds of blooms for over a year and produced many floral displays based on various biblical themes. Around £650 was raised during the show’s run.
“A great success,” the organisers rightly claimed. There were queues to get into the display and flower lovers from as far away as Aberdeen turned up.
