Blantyre Indoor Bowling, 1977

Blantyre lad David Clyde fairly “bowled them over” with his skill on the rink during 1977.

A member of Blantyre Indoor Bowling Club, David, at the age of 17, showed that he was no overnight sensation when he won that club’s Junior Championship. He followed this up by winning the Lanarkshire Junior Championship, and at the start of October 1977, made his “triple” year by taking the club’s junior outdoor singles championship.

David, of Hardie Street, was then looking forward to going on to senior success. He worked with Reid’s, the Blantyre printers. After this picture was taken in October 1977, he told reporters that the secret of success is practice.

He commented: “I am never off the rink. l’m thinking of moving into the Craig Street stadium!” David is pictured (kneeling, front) with some of his bowling friends just before his latest success.
