Whilst I was in the library researching and looking through some old newspapers, the Weekend TV schedules caught my eye from October 1977. As a 6 year old then, there were certainly a few children’s programmes I remember well. I’m sure, even if you were an adult that year, you’ll remember many of these TV programmes.
I remember in our living room we had one of those large box like, ‘tube’ TVs, with terrible resolution, but it was colour, so nobody complained. No remote controls. No attached games consoles. Only 3 channels which didn’t start until near 9am and following the National anthem, had no programmes on after midnight!
As I sat in the library room looking through this with some nostalgia, I couldn’t help thinking these were simpler times which offered less choice in front of a screen, and only meant all the family could spend more time outside and doing other things.
