Simplicity Patterns Ltd of Blantyre held their annual Long Service Awards function on the first Monday night of February 1977. This picture shows Simplicity’s Chairman, Mr Harold Cooper from New York, who was at the function to hand out medals to mark 10 years’ service with the company to 24 Blantyre employees.
Also at the function, held in the ‘Da Luciano Ristorante’, Bothwell, was Simplicity’s Managing Director from London, Mr A. V. Martin. Most of these people are Blantyre workers. Recognise anybody?

Alexander Scott I was a 21 year old driver with United Carriers in 1971 who uplifted loads from Simplicity patterns. The loading bay was short for an articulated vehicle, so to lock out the heating loss they put the roller shutter door down between the trailer and the drive unit of the truck. Whilst I was in the canteen having lunch I was told there had been an accident. Apparently an apprentice mechanic had come to fix a fault in the truck and had decided to drive off, taking the roller shutter door with him.
