Christmas Eve, 1970

These three photos are from my own family collection. Taken 53 years ago to this very day! Christmas Eve, 1970 at Stonefield Crescent, Blantyre.

My mother, Janet takes a rest by the fire. Well deserved sit down in a time about to change her life. For in a way, I’m in these pictures too, a few weeks before being born!

I don’t remember the family cat ‘Rags’, a stray my mother rescued. I don’t remember our first Samoyed dog either. However, one of my earliest childhood memories is of mum sitting in that corner seat knitting. I would be on the rug as a toddler in front of the fire, playing or drawing and being told off if I touched the fireguard. Strange how things like that come back to you when you see a picture that makes something click back into place.

This was Christmas Eve, a first Christmas in Scotland for my father who must have taken the photo. Mum and dad were only 23 years old at the time. Feeling.a little nostalgic today so thought I’d share these. Merry Christmas!
