A further photo from Claire Murray showing the Jerusalem Homes, this time a little more towards Main Street and Douglas Street. Taken in 1972, they clearly show the original flat roofs.
I loved playing in this estate when I was a child! The wide open spaces, great paths, lanes and parks for bikes, plenty of children always out playing. It was certainly to me as a child, somewhere I wanted to live, rather than “sleepy” Stonefield Crescent.
The vantage point on the former colliery bing, now slopes leading up to Hamilton Technology Park are very green these days, the trees planted at the time the Expressway was built, now forming a tall, green corridor through to Hillhouse.
