This picture has a great deal of familiarity. Allegedly from 1937, it’s Station Road, looking down towards the Village, Blantyre.
School children, some barefoot turn into the entrance to St Joseph’s School. Street lighting is electric and some of the homes on the right look fairly new. One thing which has dramatically changed though, is the traffic! Today Station Road is very busy, a primary route to the Village, a far cry from just 2 vehicles you see here.
A reader once told me he was related to one of these girls on the left, but unusually, I can’t find my notes on that. So if you know who these kids are, please do let me know! With thanks to Rob Gordon for this good copy.
