Yuletide was made all the more memorable in December 1904 by various Sabbath Schools in Blantyre.
Well attended, thoughtful meetings by the children and their Sunday school teachers were held at the various churches in the town. Blantyre East U.F Church, Blantyre Parish Church and Stonefield Parish church followed their traditional customs with gifts given out to the children of the Sunday Schools.
But it was Livingstone Memorial Church in their annual Christmas soiree who went a little further that year, by bringing a tree into their church, decorating it beautifully. The children at that particular Sabbath school then agreed to forfeit their gifts to give them instead to children in local hospitals. It was a thoughtful move which gained much respect when reported in the newspapers.
At the Blantyre Parish Church soiree, attendance was nearly 400 people, many of whom were children. All were treated to a lantern and cinematograph views which delighted both young and old.
