Frozen Calder River

The continuing cold weather and inclement temperatures is having an affect on us all this week. Wrapping up to keep warm, spare a thought for outdoor animals and birds this winter as they seek out shelter and warmth.

Of course nowhere is the effect of ice and cold more apparent than in nature itself. The beautiful icy scenes, icicles and crisp, frozen trees and frost covered fields. Today’s post shows even parts of the River Calder have incredibly frozen over, something I’ve not seen since the mid 1990s.

A word of warning though. Ice usually brings danger on any water as a tragedy in England this week will remind us all. Beautiful as these scenes may be, it’s worth keeping distance.

With thanks to Jack Byres for this great photo.
