Here’s a photo which hopefully you haven’t seen before. May stir up some memories? Who remembers Eddie Collins Bakery? The building was located at Larkfield near the Bing, set back off Broompark Road. To put this in context, the footpath you see in the foreground would now be the front entrance of the existing Carrigans Pub and Restaurant. The photo is taken from Broompark Road at the end of Watson Street looking over to the north, before Mr Collins build his shop.
When this photo was taken in either the late 60s or very early 70s, there was nothing much around this location. Empty fields and farm fields all around. No High Blantyre Primary across the road. No Scottish Special Housing. Empty fields around the remnants of Dixons Pit number 4.
