Could any Blantyre past photo be MORE different to the current scene than this particular photo. A reminder of what was once there and probably shocking to younger generations who may not have known about Blantyre previous tenements shops and homes.

Some 110 years ago, this part of the North of Glasgow Road was a bustling scene of commerce, shoppers and commercial tradespeople. This scene was at the top of Forrest Street, the tenements in the foreground now where the Andy’s Tyres is. It’s truly saddening to think of the potential lost in Blantyre through the systematic demolition of these buildings during the 1970s.

Here’s what this exact scene looks like today. I wonder what our Edwardian ancestors would have thought of this.
