1952 Park Flower Display

Going back exactly 70 years ago to Stonefield Public Park. This previously unseen photo online shows the beautiful flower display marking the very special occasion of the building of the Livingstone Memorial Bridge in 1952. Flowers planted to a specific design showing not only Livingstone’s profile, but the bridge itself using thousands of little colourful plants.

I’m sure we can all appreciate the effort the parkies and volunteers put into these displays, this one being just one of many. Putting the photo in context, the factories at John Street are in the distance, and on the horizon, the Bing of former Craighead Colliery.
