Familiar? This is Danskins Drapery shop at the corner of Stonefield Road and Broompark Road, a shop which is now a newsagents. This was home to my grandmother Mary Danskin and her family and with this photo getting on to be a hundred years old, its a good look back at what was once there. It shows Little’s timber yard and joinery workshop next door, which in modern times is now a hairdresser, the building standing the test of time.
Beyond that, some people will remember the high tenements which looked out on the back fields of Broompark Farm. These tenements were demolished in the 1970’s.
The shop in the foreground later became Dunsmuirs amongst other owners and is perhaps best remembered in the modern era as being Collinses.
