
I’ve not got many notes on Blantyre British Legion, but this photo is certainly members of the Blantyre branch who held a whist drive and dance in the Miners Welfare Hall on 21st March 1930.
I know they existed as early as 1923 and suspect they formed long before that. Similarly, I’m not sure if the organisation exists today. If you know more or able to add some detail, please do.
Judging from this photo, this entertaining evening was clearly well enjoyed with many smiles. Several of the women modelling permanent waving, the hairstyle of choice at the time. A few men have short , small moustaches, a fashion style we all know would become deeply unpopular and ditched by British men almost a decade later.
