Goodbye Bob Soutter, 1907

1907 Auchentibber Inn. Souter and Wallace.

Pictured here at the door of the former Auchentibber Inn is barman Bob Soutter and Mr Wallace. Wallace was a miner and was a keen quoiting player, though I cannot presume he was a regular in the pub.

Robert Soutter was the barman for J.B.H Struthers, looking after the pub. This remarkably clear photo, I had as 1908, but actually recently I had to revise that to definitely before February 1907. This was because I found a good piece of info about Robert (Bob).

On Thursday 28th February 1907 a large number of friends met in the house of Mr. John Morrow at Greenblairs Farm to honour Robert Soutter on the occasion of his permanent leaving from Auchentibber.

Robert Potter was chairman and presented Bob Soutter with a pocket book lined with gold and a handsome umbrella for Mrs Soutter. A pleasant evening of dancing was then had with music from Miss Agnes Morrow. Small speeches followed where everybody wished Bob and his wife all the best for the future.

I like snippets like this. The exact dating is important and puts in context several undated Auchentibber photos where Bob is pictured behind the Auchentibber Bar, at the door or in the grounds. It means all those particular photos were certainly before 1907.

  1. You mention that there is are other pictures of Bob. I would be interested to see them please. His sister is my great-grandmother. I have a postcard addressed to his wife Jeannie at 128 Park Rd, Glasgow in Oct 1908. She later had a shop in Market St, St. Andrews.
