1960’s Kirkton Public Park

Gordon Cook recently shared a couple of wonderful photos of Kirkton Public Park at High Blantyre , are detailed enough to zoom in. Pictured in colour from near the School Lane entrance, this photo looks over to Broompark Avenue and Broompark Road.

Taken in the late 1960’s, the path on the left led down to a small pond, which in later decades will be remembered as being trampolines. The park-keepers hut clearly visible in the centre. I couldn’t help noticing the beautiful well kept flower beds and multiple large wooden benches dotted around the playpark. The more I look at this, i think the houses opposite Broompark Road, in the Burnbrae estate were under construction, putting the photo at the earliest as 1969.

More great photos of this park coming in the next couple of days.
