Miners Welfare Bowling, 1938

Eddie McLernon sent in these two photos of a bowling jack. Now this jack has a very specific Blantyre connection as it marked the opening of the Blantyre Miners Welfare Bowling Club back in 1938.

The small, silver jack is engraved with:

“BLANTYRE DISTRICT MINERSWELFARE BOWLING CLUB
PRESENTED TO MRS MARY MCLERNON ON THE OPENING OF THE GREEN
7th MAY 1938″

Eddie told me, “The jack and metal tripod stand now at my daughter’s home in Poynton, Cheshire as a reminder of her granny.”
