Livingstone’s Cafe Opening

Well, I mentioned it was a busy week at the Village and thats certainly the case for the brand new Cafe in the David Livingstone Birthplace grounds, which opens tomorrow!

“Livingstone’s” Cafe will open at 8.30am on Thursday 1st July 2021. Run by local woman, Hazel Krawczyk, owner of ‘Hazel’s Butterfly Bakery’, the brand new cafe will sell hot and cold food as well as a variety of refreshments. Look out for delicious soups as well as sandwiches and home made cakes, alongside a breakfast and lunch menu with daily specials. Situated in the separate newly renovated buildings (formerly Africa Pavilions), the interior has been beautifully decorated adjacent to new toilets and a lovely new gift shop.

There’s indoor and outdoor seating and in due course with thanks to Hazel’s kindness, this will become the local outlet to buy Blantyre Project books.

Produce will be supplied by a number of local vendors, with Strachan Craft Butchers based in Blantyre providing specially made sausages and burgers influenced by the flavours of South African cuisine as a nod to David Livingstone’s expeditions.

SLC Provost Ian McAllan said: “Livingstone’s café will be a fantastic new addition to the David Livingstone Centre, complementing the £9.1million renovation work of the museum building. The café’s innovative menu will not only reflect the famous explorer’s extensive explorations in Africa during the 19th century but will also showcase the wonderful produce of local traders closer to home whose ingredients will I am sure attract everyone from the local community and make it an attraction in its own right.”

Hazel and her staff look forward to welcoming you all very soon. You can follow all the Cafe news and find ‘sneak peeks’ of whats coming, here on Livingstone’s Cafe Facebook page.
