Caldergrove Hall

A few more photos of former Caldergrove House, which once sat near the Priory Bridge on the outskirts of Blantyre.

Taken in 1983 before a fire meant the house had to be demolished, these photos show the entrance hallway and the bathrooms. This was an impressive house owned for a couple of generations by the Marshall family in the late 19th Century into the early 20th Century.

In WW1, the house was used as a hospital for wounded soldiers. Some of the rooms leading off would have been wards, with rooms turned into quarters for the nursing and medical staff. In the 20th Century, two sisters lived there until their elderly years, going by the name Waddell.
