Priory Bridge Steps

Here’s an uncommon, hidden view of some existing steps. This set of stone steps is at the side of the Priory Bridge which crosses the Rotten Calder river on the boundary of Blantyre and Cambuslang Parishes. The entrance from the old abandoned former road has been blocked up. The steps are near Bardykes Mill, which exists only in ruin now at the riverbank.

I can well imagine the mill owner heading back up there to his nearby house once a days work was complete. For just over 2 decades, trams trundled past this location which also acted as the terminus.

I have to admit, this is a rather dangerous area to explore. Steep embankments adding to hazards. Please take care if ever in this area. With thanks to Alex Rochead for these photos.
