Bolt Works Candlesticks

Curiosities Day 1:

Alister McInnes writes, “These two candlesticks in the photo came from my Grandparents house in Springwells (33 Glasgow Road – Jim and Cecilia Durnian).

The family story was that they came form the boltworks that used to be in that area. They have no markings on them and look as if they were machine turned – thought you might have an interest in them.”

I’m thinking the boltworks in that area must surely have been the one in Burnbank. Anybody else have locally made ‘heirlooms’?

  1. Yes the bolt works was just as you left Blantyre going into Burnbank on the left.
My Mother had a poker for the fire that a friend of my older make, he threaded one end of a steel bar screwed brass and steel nuts on then welded the last nut and turned on a machine.
