Absent Friends, by J Whelan

I read this warm poem by Jimmy Whelan a couple of weeks ago and thought it was well written and likely resonates with many people.

When I stare upon this vacant chair
I often wonder why you’re not there
When I look upon the empty glass
I recall great memories of the past

A certain phrase or song you’d sing
Fond memories come flooding in.
A funny line or a certain smile
It makes me pause and think a while

I often think of times gone by
Look up to God and ask him “Why”
It was your time to be called away
He sure works in mysterious ways

So now you’ve taken leave of life
You’re on your journey to a better life
To a place with harps, where angels sing
Where you can sit beneath their wings.
